The Culling 2's PC Player Base Drops To Single Digits During Launch Week

July 12, 2018

By any metric, The Culling 2 is off to a terrible start. Following a surprise reveal last month, the battle royal game's user base has already dwindled down a single player. Yes, you read that right. According to SteamCharts, only one person is currently playing The Culling 2. Given that this is meant to be played with 100 other players, you can already see the problem.

Negative Steam reviews cited a disappointing lack of content, subpar visuals, and the microscopic player count. "Not even as a failed successor to The Culling 1, but as a video game on its own." one user review read. With the limited number of positive reviews largely praising the game ironically, such as "10/10 Would Refund Again!"

Developer Xaviant responded to the disastrous launch numbers in a somber tone, tweeting "It’s time for us here at Xaviant to come together for some much needed soul searching and to have some admittedly difficult discussions about the future of our studio. We’ll talk soon."

The Culling 2's release couldn't have come at a worse time as Epic Games' season 5 update to their massively popular free to play Fortnite Battle Royal launched only two days later.

No word on how the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions have fared, though the official support Twitter account apologized for a number of issues on launch day.
